Privacy Policy
Softgrid ("the app", "we") lets you draw on a shared canvas with friends or a partner and see those drawings on your widgets. This policy explains what we collect and how it is used. We keep it to the minimum the app needs to work.
What We Collect
- Nickname you choose, shown to others in your room.
- Room code you create or enter to join a room.
- Colour you pick.
- Drawings you send, stored as small images along with your anonymous ID and colour.
- Anonymous identifier: the app signs you in anonymously. No name, email, phone number or password is required, and we do not ask for them.
- Notification token: a code for your device that lets us tell the app when someone in your room has sent a drawing, so it can update your widget and, if you allow notifications, show you an alert.
- App usage and crash information, described under "App Analytics and Crash Reports" below.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or advertising identifier. We do not show ads or use advertising trackers, and we do not sell your data.
How It Is Used
This information is used to run the app: to show your nickname and drawings to the other people in your room, to display drawings on your widgets, and to let you know when a new drawing arrives. Usage and crash information is used only to understand how the app is being used and to fix problems.
App Analytics and Crash Reports
The Softgrid mobile app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to log a small number of usage events, such as joining a room, sending a drawing, and seeing the widget tip, so we can tell whether the app is working and being used. The events record that something happened, not what you drew or wrote. Along with them, Firebase automatically records general information such as when the app is first opened and used, your device model, iOS version, app version, language, and the country or region you appear to be in, worked out from your internet address.
This information is tied to an anonymous identifier for the app on your device, not to your name or contact details. It is never used for advertising and does not use the advertising identifier.
The app also uses Firebase Crashlytics. If the app crashes, it sends us a report with your device model, iOS version and what the app was doing at the time, so we can fix the bug.
This section is about the mobile app. Analytics on this website are separate and are described under "This Website" below.
Who Can See Your Content
Anyone who has your room code and joins the room (up to 4 people) can see your nickname, colour and drawings. They can also save a drawing you sent as a favourite, which keeps a copy on their own device. Share your room code only with people you trust.
Storage and Service Providers
Data is stored and processed with Google Firebase, which acts as our service provider and handles data on our behalf under Firebase's privacy terms. We use Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication to run rooms, Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver notifications (through Apple's notification service), and Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics as described above. Google may store and process this data on servers outside your country. Your nickname, room code, colour, recent drawings and any favourites you save are also kept on your device (including in a shared app group so the widget can read them).
How Long We Keep It
Drawings are shown in the app for one hour after they are sent. Favourites stay on the device of the person who saved them until they remove them or delete the app. Nickname, room membership, colour and notification token are kept until you leave the room or ask us to delete them. Usage and crash information is kept by Google for a limited period and then deleted. You can leave a room at any time from the app's profile screen.
Your Choices and Deletion
You can leave a room, or delete the app, at any time. You can turn notifications off for Softgrid in your iPhone's Settings. To request deletion of data associated with you, email us at hello@softgrid.work with your room code and nickname, and we will remove it.
Safety and Reporting
Because drawings are shared between people, you can contact us to report a person or a drawing that concerns you. We may remove content or rooms that violate the law or put others at risk.
Children
Softgrid is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete the data.
Security
Data is transmitted to Firebase over encrypted connections. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect it.
This Website
We do not set cookies on this website, softgrid.work, and we do not run advertising trackers on it. To count visits and see which pages are viewed, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not follow you across other websites. If you pick a colour at the bottom of the page, that choice is saved in your own browser so the site remembers it; it is not sent to us. Anything you draw on the demo stays in your browser and is not stored or sent anywhere. The site is hosted by Cloudflare and loads its heading font from Google Fonts, so those providers receive standard technical information, such as your IP address, when your browser requests the pages and the font. Cloudflare may also set a security cookie to tell real visitors from automated traffic.
